My husband Carl and Marilyn's husband worked together some years ago at Hackney Council and I met Stephen briefly a few times. We got a Xmas card each year from them both in Stephen's beautiful handwriting. Later Stephen joined us and a couple of our friends at the Dairy Pub quiz on occasional Tuesday nights. I wondered why his wife Marilyn did not join us for these as they lived so close but was told that she refused to do Quiz nights with Stephen! I was amused by this and thought that I would like to meet her.
Unfortunately, I did nothing to make this happen and it was only when the local U3A started and Marilyn joined some of the same groups as me that I came to know her a little in the last couple of years. She was indeed full of humour and a zest for life and thoroughly enjoyable company. Reading all the comments and tributes makes me wish even more that I had known her for longer but I am glad that I did, even if it was far too brief.
